I am being targeted, Dudu Myeni tells court

Myeni spent a second day in the witness stand on Friday.

Outa and the SAA Pilots’ Association (SAAPA) want the court to declare Myeni a delinquent director.

The organisations argue Myeni was responsible for two deals that could have yielded great results for the cash-strapped airline, one with Emirates and another with Airbus.

Outa's legal representative, Advocate Carol Steinberg, began her cross-examination by taking Myeni to task for her failure to appear in court since the start of the case in October.

"I stated categorically that I am unemployed. I don't have means. This is per the meeting, when there is a meeting and really on the R12 000 you earn per meeting is different to spend the R12 000 to appear in court," Myeni replied.

But Steinberg countered this by saying Myeni did not have means to appear in court despite earning at least R7 million in 2017 as a member of two boards.

She also asked her questions related to the Airbus deal, with Myeni telling the court that she did things by the book and is being targeted.

"Here I am targeted for Emirates deal, for Airbus deal. Those were two decisions taken by the board, a collective structure and not one person. We do know sometimes there are areas where you are charged as an individual."

"But in my experience, I have never been charged as Outa wants to charge me for decisions of a collective but I'm targeted as an individual."

Steinberg said Outa and SAAPA want all the directors involved to be accountable but don't have the resources to take all of them to court.

She said Myeni needs to be accountable as she was the chairperson of the board.
