Eldon Francis came under fire while he was driving on the R102, with his wife and her brother.

Tongaat councillor Dolly Munien says his wife was wounded in the attack and is in hospital.

Her brother tragically succumbed to his injuries.

"It just grazed her head, so she is going back for a check-up because they feel there still could be something else because yesterday she was strong, but now she has broken down completely.

"She was in the front seat sitting next to Eldon and her brother told her husband, 'Drive the car Eldon, I am shot' and Eldon was shot already."

A second drive-by attack occurred in the area just minutes apart.

Police say the same car with the gunmen was seen at the Fairbreeze intersection.

Munien says she drove past the scene to get to the R102.

"Coincidently that the same vehicle passed here and within five minutes, that shooting took place when I passed that incident to come here and see who the person was and I saw the car and my daughter said, 'Mommy, are you close, please don't go near its Eldon.' And I said why they would want to shoot him an innocent child? The cops must do their job."

He is survived by two children.

In the other incident, three security guards escorting a taxi owner were shot and killed.

Also, on Thursday in Amanzimtoti, a couple was shot and injured in Athlone Park.

Earlier the same day, a man was shot in the leg in Glenwood. Police are investigating.
