Hundreds of people left homeless following Ladysmith storms

Hundreds of people are trying to rebuild their lives and homes after a punishing storm in Ladysmith.
About 400 people were evacuated from their properties on Saturday night.
MEC for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Nomusa Dube-Ncube says many houses were destroyed.
"They are no back in their houses, trying to [retrieve] whatever little remains of their households. So far we are very grateful that a lot of neighbours were able to assist," said Dube-Ncube.
They have been sleeping in community halls.

Disaster management teams visited the affected wards yesterday -- including wards 8, 9 and 20.MEC for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Nomusa Dube-Ncube says many houses were destroyed.
"They are no back in their houses, trying to [retrieve] whatever little remains of their households. So far we are very grateful that a lot of neighbours were able to assist," said Dube-Ncube.
"For now, we are going to try and get Wendy houses that can at least assist them [in terms of accommodation]."
The South African Weather Service is predicting warm conditions in Ladysmith in the coming days, with a 30 percent chance of evening thundershowers.Show's Stories
