Howick shack fire victims get helping hand

Disaster management teams have been assisting the victims of a fire at an informal settlement in Howick.
Sixty-three people lost everything they owned, when the blaze gutted more than 20 homes at Mathandobisi Informal Settlement on Monday.
Paramedics say a woman was treated for burn injuries.
The deputy mayor of Umngeni Local Municipality, Sandile Mnikathi, says they've moved the fire victims to Howick West Hall for now.

"Disaster relief materials have also been distributed by Umngeni Municipality as well as Umgungundlovu District Municipality to all those that have been affected. Investigations about what exactly caused the fire is still underway.
"We've also reached out to local businesses to assist with rebuilding materials and we have the number on board such as Palette Link, they'll be there tomorrow. Howick meat centre who is committed to distributing some food parcels to the guys who have been affected."
