Bhim Sukununun has been described as a hardworking family man, who was an upstanding member of the local community. The 82-year-old was attacked in the early hours of Thursday morning by unknown men who entered his home along Hillcrest Avenue in Chatsworth, south of Durban.

He was dragged into the garden by the suspects before they allegedly assaulted him and bound his limbs with belts. He was also gagged.

Family say the attackers left him for dead, as they made off with his cellphone and wallet.

His grandson, Shravam Bhim, rushed him to hospital but he died that evening as a result of his extensive injuries.

Bhim says they are battling to come to terms with the way in which they've lost a loved one.

"He owned his own business which he worked in up until the day he died", he said.

"Everything that he had he got himself. He had a very hard life", Bhim said

Bayview SAPS is investigating a case of house robbery and murder. No arrests have been made.
