Hostages released in Berea stand-off
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
There's been a development with the hostage situation in central Durban.
Hostages have apparently been released at a fast food restaurant in Berea.
For about two hours, a woman who was armed with knife, held about three staff members hostages inside the establishment.
The suspect was seen earlier, coming out onto the restaurants balcony, waving the weapon in the air, before going back in.
About an hour ago, negotiators from the SAPS made their way in.
Outside, dozens of police and security officials waited, with paramedics also on standby.
Moments ago, screaming could be heard coming from inside the establishment, before glass was heard shattering.
Officials have confirmed that the hostages have been released and that the situation is under control.
This is a developing story.
