Protests erupt again at UKZN Westville
Updated | By Sandile Zikhali
Violent unrest has erupted at the University of KwaZulu-Natal's Westville campus again. Footage from the scene appears to show protestors clashing with private security guards.
Fires have also been lit on the campus.
The varsity released a statement yesterday saying lectures were meant to kick-off on four campuses again this morning.
But student leaders at Westville say classes will not resume until their demands are met.
The SRC's Bongumenzi Mhlongo says they were unhappy with the statement.
"We are well aware that we are all here to study. We are saying we cannot allow a situation whereby only half of the students are eligible to study and to find funding for their studies. But the other half is neglected. As the SRC, we are representative for all students. "
Mhlongo says they are appealing for patience.
'We want to ensure that every student is catered for."
