Hoosen Haffajee murder probe needs fresh start - expert

A legal expert says the investigation into the death of Hoosen Haffajee needs to start afresh.
This after a court ruled the political activist didn't take his own life in police cells in Durban over four decades ago.
The apartheid police's security branch claimed the 26-year-old dentist hanged himself at Brighton Beach, where he was being held for his involvement in anti-apartheid activities.
The NPA reopened a probe in 2019 and this week the Pietermaritzburg High Court ruled that the doctor didn't commit suicide.

It said those involved must be held accountable and legal expert Sunil Singh agrees.
"From the decision that was made it said he died as a result of suicide. Now it come out different as to the evidence that were there, that needs to be scrutinized and see how exactly how it happened.
"They will probably reconstruct time scenes to see how he would have hung himself with his pants.
"Those are all the factors that will be taken into account when the investigator investigates from scratch and start from point zero and say who was responsible."
