Home Affairs working to stabilise Smart ID online system
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
Home Affairs is trying to get its live capture system up and running again.
It's hoping to do this before the end of the week.
The department's David Hlabane says a systems upgrade - which began on Friday was supposed to have been done by Sunday.
But some offices around the country have been experiencing a glitch on the upgraded system.
He says SMART IDs and passport applications couldn't be processed.
By yesterday afternoon the majority of the problems were fixed.
"Most of the offices are back online. There are still a few where we are still sorting out errors on the system. But we are almost there. Of the 193 modernised offices, these using the live capture system, we have gone beyond 100 now. Those are back online so we should be able to do the rest of the offices. This is just to stabilise the system at this point."
