Home Affairs suspends ID, passport services due to power outage
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
The Department of Home Affairs says it is unable to issue ID cards, passports, and temporary IDs due to a power outage at its back office in Pretoria on Tuesday.

The disruption affected all branches nationwide.
Spokesperson Siyabonga Qoza says services that are not affected are the birth, marriage, and death services.
"The back office has got a generator and four Uninterrupted Power Supplies (UPS) which work as a backup. Unfortunately, the power damage also affected the UPS when the generator tried to kick off.
Technicians are working around the clock to ensure that services are speedily restored."
Qoza says the services are expected back on Wednesday.
