Home Affairs officials accused of fraud get bail
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Two Richmond home affairs officials accused of fraud have been granted bail by the Durban Commercial Crimes Court.
Xolisa Mfoboza and Sabani Mtshali are suspected of irregularly issuing late registration birth certificates and other sensitive documents at the home affairs office in Richmond.
KZN Hawks spokesperson, Simphiwe Mhlongo says they were arrested on Friday - after officials were tipped off about what was going on at the office.
"During their arrest, members proceeded to their places of residence where a search was conducted. SASSA cards, a list of ID numbers and ID books were found in their places of residence. That one will also be investigated further to see if that they are not linked to the fraudulent activities that we were conducting. That will lead to more charges being added to their suspects."
The case has been postponed to next month.
