The Road Traffic Inspectorate says high volumes of traffic are still being experienced on major routes in the province as travellers continue to make their way to KwaZulu-Natal for the Easter holidays.
The RTI's Zinhle Mngomezulu says the N3 has been particularly busy, with a large number of vehicles were counted at the Mariannhill Toll Plaza earlier today.
"Northbound we had 1898 going through and southbound there were 2023 vehicles," she said.
She says despite a number of accidents have already been reported, motorists have generally been behaving on the roads.
Mngomezulu adds there will be a high visibility of law enforcement officers on the roads throughout.
"SAPS will be concentrating on drugs dagga and all illegal substances that can be transported in vehicles. RTI officials will be on the lookout for outstanding warrants, unroadworthy vehicles, drunken driving and so forth" she added.
