Hluhluwe lion attack victim to be laid to rest today
Updated | By Khatija Nxedlana
The funeral of 45 year-old Vusimuzi Kubeka who was mauled to death by a lioness at the Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park this week will be held in Ezimambeni in northern KZN this morning.
Kubeka had been attending to an engine that pumps water into the purification plant that provides water to nearby camps when the sickly lioness attacked him. KZN Environmental Affairs officials and Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife staff visited the Kubeka family this week.
Park manager Jabulani Ngubane has described Kubeka - who was with the organisation for 16 years - as one of their finest.
"He did his job with diligence and respect and was one of the best. I think he had a lot of his respect for his colleagues and we respected him as management," he said.
"It is quite unfortunate that we find ourselves in this situation," Ngubane said.
Meanwhile, Kubeka's colleague who was walking not far from him at the time of the attack is receiving trauma therapy in hospital.
