Hlophe’s appointment as MK leader in Parliament is ‘payback’
Updated | By Celumusa Zulu
Loyalty and trust are what led to former Western Cape Judge President John Hlophe being appointed as the MK Party's leader in Parliament, according to political analyst Thabani Khumalo.
The MK party announced Hlophe's appointment on Friday.
He was impeached earlier this year after a judicial tribunal found him guilty of attempting to sway two Constitutional Court justices in 2008 in an arms deal matter involving former president Jacob Zuma.
Zuma now leads the MK party.
Khumalo says Hlophe is considered to be one of Zuma's most trusted lieutenants.

"In politics, you appoint people you trust most. Zuma has got no option, he has to find somebody from a pool from his close friend whom he trusts most. Judge Hlophe was impeached because he was accused of having tried to do a favour for him, so I think it is payback time."
Khumalo also believes Hlophe could succeed Zuma as MK party leader.
"Zuma soon will be out of the spot. People who are following MK are following the figure called Zuma. To leave this party in good hands, he must also get a big figure. Amongst the people who are there, I think former judge Hlophe happens to be a candidate."
