Hlabisa says there’s no crisis within IFP

The IFP says there is no leadership crisis following an attempt by a group of petitioners to call for an urgent sitting of the party's National Council, apparently with a plan to table a motion of no-confidence in the IFP president.

They had apparently planned to table a no-confidence motion in the party's president.

The IFP's secretary-general was handed the petition with 20 signatories over a week ago.

At a media briefing in Durban on Tuesday, party president Velenkosini Hlabisa said the group was called before the NEC to substantiate their petition.

Two signatories withdrew, meaning the minimum 20 threshold was no longer realised.

Hlabisa says they have engaged the rest of the group, thus bringing finality to the matter.

"Let me assure our members and South Africa there is no crisis in the IFP. The party is solid, strong and united to service South Africa."

On the health of founder Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, Hlabisa appealed for privacy to be afforded to the family while addressing rumours that emerged on Sunday that he'd passed on.

"The latest information I got this morning [Prince Mangosuthu] is doing well in hospital, and we thank God against the rumours that started to circulate on Sunday evening, which are inhumane for a person to circulate information which he or she has not confirmed."
