Hillcrest children's home temporarily closes
Updated | By Nondumiso Zakwe
The Tholuthando Children's Home came to the attention of the department after allegations of rape and child abuse there surfaced.
But Social Development's Ncumisa Fandesi says following a probe, they found the claims to be baseless only that the home was not registered nor did it comply with the set norms and standards.
''It was also found that the children that are being kept at the centre are very happy, they're very attached to the centre. They considered it as their home.
''The MEC feels it would not be fair for the children to be moved and so it was agreed that the department would assist the centre in terms of compliance. Going forward, the children will continue living at the home,'' she said.
Fandesi says the 29 children housed there are being temporarily moved to other nearby homes.
