Higher Education Dept to invest in young academics
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande says R184 million has been set aside for a programme that will see an increase in black academics in universities.
Nzimande made the announcement yesterday at Sasco's policy conference at the Mangosuthu University of Technology.
Nzimande said the majority of academic staff at higher institutions of learning are white men and this often hampers transformation.
''This will enable 79 posts to be allocated at an amount of R2.3-million per post, that's what we are investing in young academics.
''I would really like to encourage those of you who have an inclination to seriously consider joining academia,'' he said.
