The DA's James Selfe attended the proceedings in the High Court in Johannesburg where government’s decision to grant Zimbabwe's former first lady diplomatic immunity was overturned.

"We are very pleased that the court has ruled - unequivocally - she was not entitled to the diplomatic immunity and that she should in theory, come back and face trial in South Africa," Selfe said.

The court ruled that the immunity was inconsistent with the law and ordered Maite Nkoana-Mashabane - former International Relations Minister - to pay the legal fees of all parties involved.

It's in connection with the alleged assault of South African model, Gabriella Engels in a hotel room in Sandton last year.

Meanwhile civil rights group, AfriForum, says if the National Prosecuting Authority doesn't bring charges against Mugabe - it will privately prosecute her.
