Higginson Highway protest: Motorists urged to use other routes
Updated | By Chanelle Lutchman
The councillor of Ward 71 says the situation at the M1 Higginson Highway is still tense due to service delivery protests.
Paris Singh is urging motorists to find an alternative route this afternoon.
"Last I spoke to some motorists, they had to detour. I would advise motorists not to use the area but rather detour but be on the lookout for tomorrow morning," he said.
He says the protests which began early this morning by people living in the Bottle Brush informal settlement on Link Road was started by another group and not those who held meetings with representatives of the mayor's office last week.
"This is a rebel group that broke away and they want to continue to have mayhem in the area. We don't know who is orchestrating the protest demonstration and what their issues are. They just went onto the road," he said.
The municipality says they are aware that barriers are being placed to block all exits and entrances to the M1 highway however they are not aware of any protest as no memorandum has been handed over.
