Tourism activity in Durban is picking up again.
eThekwini Municipality says the sector received a much-needed shot in the arm over the Heritage Day long weekend.
Some 95% of establishments were fully booked on Friday and Saturday, as guests made their way to the city.
The municipality's Msawakhe Mayisela says if current indications are anything to go by, things are looking up for the festive season.
"If you look at this weekend alone, we have managed to have most of our accommodation establishments being almost 100 percent fully booked.
"That meant that we had visitors totaling to close to 90 000 that came to our city spending over R100 million, contributing directing R265 million to our Gross Domestic Product and creating over 500 jobs.
"This is good news and our mayor is very excited about these developments and is a clear indication that indeed our city is very hard at work and we are very optimistic."
