Officials say they began receiving calls for help from people who were stuck in their homes.

IPSS Medical Rescue's Samantha Meyrick says they were called out to Tongaat last night to save three people after the river running through the CBD flooded.

Meyrick says two people were left stuck in a tree, and a third person was trapped on a wall surrounded by rising water.

“IPSS dispatched numerous teams to reports of flooding. We urge motorists to stay off the roads and do not cross low-lying bridges as roads start to flood and bridges become impossible.”

She says they were brought out safely.

EMER-G-Med's Kyle Van Reenen says they had their hands full in the Greater eThekwini area.

“Multiple calls came in through various support networks for localised flooding, structural collapses and people stuck in their homes. Resources worked their way through to assist those in need, and no fatalities were reported.
