Heatwave safety warning for KZN bathers
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
With soaring temperatures already being experienced in KZN and other parts of the country and people looking for ways to cool down the National Sea Rescue Institute is reminding to keep safety top of mind when around water bodies.
The NSRI says bathers having a day out at the sea must swim at beaches where there are lifeguards on duty.
It says children should no be left unattended near private or public swimming pools or at the beach.
The NSRI's Graig Lambinon says fisher folk and others who will be taking boats out to sea must also follow safety precautions.
"Parents should ensure that children have adult supervision around water. Watch your child. Drowning is silent", he said.
"Go as far as appointing a safety officer. That designated person should not be distracted by their phone or by anything else", Lambinon said.
