Health MEC: Community consultation not required for COVID-19 facilities
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
KZN MEC for Health Nomagugu Simelane-Zulu says, if they need to, they will treat COVID-19 patients at any facility in the province.
Simelane-Zulu’s condemned the burning of a R6-million centre at the Cathrine Booth Hospital near Eshowe. Angry locals who do not want the hospital to take in COVID-19 patients allegedly torched the centre on Thursday.
A security guard was shot and wounded and all equipment and patient files inside were destroyed.
Simelane-Zulu visited the Amatikhulu hospital this past week:
"There is nowhere in the world where communities have to be consulted before facilities are used as COVID-19 centres", she said.
"We are going continue using this facility to treat COVID-19 patients as and when we see fit. If the community does not allow to do so it means it does not need this facility.
