The Health Department
says it first wants to gather enough evidence about the charges levelled
against its former spokesperson before it makes an official statement on the
matter.

Popo Maja was granted bail of R5000 in the Digital Vibes case in Pretoria on Wednesday.
He is facing two charges of corruption linked to the controversial deal.
Maja's accused of receiving bribes of R15 000 after the awarding of the R140 million tender in 2020 to help publish information about the National Health Insurance and Covid-19 pandemic.
Maja was suspended as head of communications along with two other top officials.

The Health Department's Foster Mohale says the department upholds its position of zero tolerance to fraud and corruption,
"And will allow the legal process to take its course without any interference. The department believes in the principle of innocent until proven guilty, and the procedural fairness will be adhered to in order to afford Mr Maja space and opportunity to deal with the case.”
