Health Dept on alert following diarrhoea outbreak in north KZN
Updated | By Sandile Zikhali
The KwaZulu-Natal Health Department has been investigating the cause of a diarrhoea outbreak at the Abaqulusi Local Municipality.

54 cases have been reported in the past 4 days. 12 people have been hospitalised including children.
The municipality which services areas like Dumbe, Lakeside, Bhekuzulu and Vryheid has been placed under administration.
The health department says it's picked up a number of irregularities, including Abaqulusi's failure to guarantee the provision of water that's safe for human consumption.
The department's Musa Gumede says this is why they're urging residents to treat the water before use.
"We therefore have sent out a call to everyone to treat this as a serious water-borne disease and therefore avoid it or boil water if you cannot get alternative sources of water until we are sure of the source of the waterborne disease," he said.
