The task team includes members of Crime Intelligence as well as the Gauteng War Room.

Hawks spokesperson Hangwani Mulaudzi says it is alleged that a group of armed robbers, some wearing police uniforms and driving in a marked SAPS Toyota bakkie and a white Mercedes Benz, held the security personnel at gunpoint.

"It is alleged that they proceeded to the airside restricted cargo area and damaged the consignment which was containing undisclosed amount of money.  The suspects fled the crime scene with all twenty-seven parcels full of foreign currency money in an unknown direction," says Mulaudzi.

Meanwhile, Ntlemeza says they will pull out all the stops to find those responsible.

"We do not want to speculate at the moment, but we are confident that people responsible for the robbery will be brought to book. The airport is a National Key point and its safety is of paramount importance. We call upon the public to provide any information regarding this matter which will assist with the investigation," says Ntlemeza.
