Updated | By Lucky Khanyile
The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal has condemned the killing of its councillor in the Umziwabantu area - in Southern KZN.
Ace Houston was addressing over 50 community members in Ward 3 in Harding, when he was shot dead.
The 58-year-old died on the scene, while another member of the public was caught in the crossfire and rushed to hospital.
ANC provincial spokesperson, Mdumiseni Ntuli, says they can't say at this stage speculate whether the murder is politically motivated .
Political killings remain a concern in the province, with Premier Willies Mchunu having recently appointed a commission of inquiry to look into them.
Ntuli is hopeful law enforcement agencies will work around the clock to arrest the killer.
"What worries all of us is the fact that this is taking place at the back of the work that is being done by the commission of inquiry. As provincial leadership, we will also before the end of business today or the first thing tomorrow morning go and pay our respects to the family," he said.
The Hawks are investigating a case of murder. and no arrests have been made.
