Hawks hunting for suspects who gunned down cop in Estcourt

Hawks officials in KZN say they're working on tracking down more suspects following the murder of a police officer in Estcourt.

One person has been arrested so far.
Constable Sithembiso Makhathini was shot during an armed robbery last week.
Despite not being on duty, the officer responded promptly to the crime in progress.
KZN Hawks spokesperson Simphiwe Mhlongo said they located the suspect at a hospital.

He suffered gunshot wounds during the robbery:
"During the incident of his killing, he managed to retaliate against the suspect who was robbing the tuck-shop, and one suspect was shot, and as a result, he was transferred to hospital. That's where the Hawks members from Pietermaritzburg Serious Organized Crime found him after receiving information.
“He will reappear in court on the 27th of February 2024, facing charges of police murder. More arrests are expected in this matter."
