"We should not be detracted by those who want to resort to gutter politics and the lowest level of degradation of people, some of whom lost their lives during the liberation struggle and others who landed in prison, as were my wife and I", he said.

"These are people whose credentials are beyond question and to accuse them of being apartheid spies is horrendous to say the least", Hanekom said.

Hanekom brought an urgent interdict against Zuma in the Durban High Court yesterday after the former President Tweeted that he was an known enemy agent.

Hanekom is seeking an apology, retraction and R500 000 in damages. He argued that the Tweet suggested he was an apartheid spy.

Zuma’s legal team responded by saying their client merely stated Hanekom worked with the EFF and other parties to try and oust him as Head of State. Judgement has been reserved.
