'Guptas citizenship documents are legitimate'
Updated | By OFM News
Finance Malusi Gigaba says there is nothing out of the ordinary about the granting of naturalisation certificates to the Gupta family.
Gigaba issued a statement today confirming that documents circulated on social media yesterday, one of them carrying his signature are, in fact, genuine.
It happened while he was the Minister of Home Affairs.
Gigaba's spokesperson, Mayihlome Tshwete, says the minister approved the application for citizenship - in a lawful manner in terms of the South African Citizenship Amendment Act of 2010.
"Like most of the recommendations that come from the department to the Minister he approves it. The individuals we are speaking about were permanent residents in 2008. Unfortunately for Home Affairs, whether certain people are deemed untouchable or not, they have the responsibility to give service to every single individual that applies for service at Home Affairs," he said.
Home Affairs spokesperson, David Hlabane, says the department has noted Gigaba's statement, and will verify the facts, before commenting.
