The Department of Social Development says it's had to beef up security
at its offices in Kwamashu after gunmen stormed the premises this week.

The department's Mhlaba Memela says they threatened staff.
"They took their belongings including their cellphones during that time there was a shootout between the security guards and the criminals. One of the official's cars was damaged in the incident."
Memela says Tuesday's incident has left them concerned.

"The government employees who deal with service delivery are often attacked. In our department, we have seen many vehicles with social workers being attacked when they go to the community to render services.
