Gungubele wants details of SAPO’s provisional liquidation
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
Communications Minister Mondli Gungubele has asked the South African Post Office board to submit a detailed account of the events that led to the entity’s provisional liquidation.

Gungubele says he wants to know what steps were taken to address the state-owned entity's debt and legal challenges.
The Post Office faces two provisional liquidation orders that relate to rental payments.
The minister issued a statement to assure the country that social grant services -- disbursed through the post office - won't be affected.

Meanwhile, the DA's Dianne Kohler Barnard says they believe the liquidation order was long overdue.
"While the liquidators seek a pay-out for their client we equally hope that not only are personal debts covered for those who rented properties for Post Office branches, which were then surreptitiously closed leaving behind massive debts; but that the Post office employees’ and retired workers’ medical aid, UIF and pension contributions which the management has carefully and criminally failed to pay over for a number of years, are met in full.
“This liquidation may indeed be the final straw for one of the most mismanaged entities within the Communications Department."
