Gumede's supporters blame NPA for ongoing delays in fraud case
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
Supporters of former eThekwini Mayor Zandile Gumede say repeated postponements in the Durban Solid Waste tender fraud case have become a costly exercise.

Gumede and her 21 co-accused lined up in the Durban High Court on Monday for a pre-trial hearing.
But the case was pushed back again after it was revealed that some of the accused, are still waiting for responses to their applications for legal aid.
Ntando Khuzwayo, one of Gumede's supporters, says the former eThekwini mayor is now having to dip into her retirement fund to pay her legal bills.

"The more it keeps on dragging that pension money is slowly getting finish. I blame the State for all of this, the spokesperson for NPA stood here and said to you that the State is now assisting - speaking to the legal aid to assist the three accused, but the same State couldn't exercise the same power or show the same interest in ask the Asset Forfeiture Unit to release some of the funds, because the State could of done that and we wouldn't be here."
The group faces charges linked to the irregularities surrounding a Durban Solid Waste tender worth over R320 million.
