Gumede wants racketeering charges against her dropped
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
The advocate representing Zandile Gumede says he'll seek to
have the racketeering charges against the former eThekwini mayor dropped.

"The particulars that we've been supplied with does not sustain the allegations of racketeering. We've asked for further particulars and in respect to the response to our request they still don't sustain the racketeering charges," says Advocate Jay Naidoo.
He was speaking to the media outside the Durban High Court, where the Durban Solid Waste corruption matter was postponed until next month.
Three of the 22 accused in the case have been unable to secure funding to pay their legal representation.

They collectively face over 2 700 fraud and corruption-related charges linked to multi-million rand Durban Solid Waste tender.
"If we are fortunate enough to have the indictment read to the accused on the 1st of August, we will lodge those objections," says Naidoo.
"The court will have to make a ruling in terms of the objections that we've made, either proceed as they are or make certain amendments to the indictments."
