Gumede to extensively study report into Reed Dance funding

EThekweni Mayor, Zandile Gumede says she will be studying a report on the money spent on the Reed Dance in Nongoma this past weekend.

Opposition parties have criticised the municipality for spending R1.6-million - approved by council - to transport, accommodate and feed about 6000 eThekwini maidens.
They are particularly outraged by the R500 000 spent on hiring two carpets for the maidens to sleep on.
Mayoral spokesperson, Mthunzi Gumede says based on the findings, the mayor will decide if an investigation into any form of wasteful expenditure is required.
"The mayor has requested a report from the relevant departments. When she gets that report - she will be able to indicate what cause of action should be taken afterwards. Tomorrow, the mayor will look at the report regarding the Reed Dance," he says.
The DA has called on eThekweni City Manager, Sipho Nzuza to probe the city's expenditures of the event.
