A video has been going around showing a security officer beating someone believed to be a patient.

The incident is said to have happened over the weekend.

The PSA's Mlungisi Ndlovu has called on the Department of Health in the province to investigate.

"It is a very disturbing video. The other concern we are raising is the capacity and training of security personnel. Some of the security personnel are doing their jobs and some of them are very aggressive.

"But we will not allow a situation where a security guard will beat a patient. An investigation needs to be taken and they must also make sure that all security guards are trained in terms of how to handle patients with mental illness."

The KZN Health Department says the hospital's management has been in contact with the concerned private security service provider and the employees implicated have been suspended.

It says it will not tolerate violence directed at anyone.
