Guard killed in cash-in-transit heist near Folweni

A security guard
was killed during a cash-in-transit heist in Durban on Tuesday morning.
ALS paramedic spokesperson Garrith Jamieson was at the scene on the M35 near Folweni and says two other guards were injured.
The cash van was found on its side after smashing through a wall of a home.
"A quick triage was done by paramedics. One guard was found to have sustained fatal injuries, and unfortunately, there was nothing paramedics could do for him, and he was declared deceased on the scene,” says Jamieson.
"One guard had sustained critical gunshot wounds and was stabilised on scene by Advanced Life Support Paramedics before a call was made to the Netcare 911 Aeromedical Helicopter to airlift the guard to a level 1 trauma unit.
"A third guard had sustained moderate injuries and was treated on scene by ALS Paramedics before being transported to hospital."
Police were investigating the scene, and the M35 was closed from both directions by lunchtime on Tuesday.
