Growing speculation ahead of president's address
Updated | By Andrew Robertson
With President Cyril Ramaphosa set to address the nation next week on government's measures to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 local economists have been weighing in on what he’s likely to focus on.
South Africa's been in lockdown since March with mass restrictions having a devastating impact on the country's economy.
Economist Dawie Roodt says he hopes more relaxations are announced.
"Hopefully he will not tighten the lockdown because it important for us to get out of this lockdown as soon as possible because the economic consequences are very severe", he said.
Another economist, Mike Schussler says it's likely Ramaphosa will give a general update.
"We probably will not talk about much - maybe about his investment conference at the end of this month. I don't think there are any plans to implement at this point in our economy, so more likely a general update", he said.
