Group applauds rhino poacher sentence
Updated | By Lauren Hendricks

Project Rhino's been reacting to a wanted fugitive being sentenced to 110 years for poaching and other related crimes in an Eastern Cape court.
Thomas Chauke pleaded guilty to six counts of rhino poaching and wildlife offences, as well as escaping from lawful custody.
Project Rhino’s Carlien Roodt says such convictions and sentences should become the norm.
" We hope it serves as a template for future prosecution rather than an exception. Project Rhino remains committed to supporting authorities and building capacity for investigations, strengthening the legal framework, and addressing the socioeconomic drivers of poaching.
