Grandmother, granddaughter buried in house collapse

An elderly woman and her granddaughter, who were seriously hurt when their Estcourt home collapsed, are recovering in hospital.

Medics responded to the structural collapse in the Emabhanoyini area on Thursday night. Due to heavy flooding, emergency personnel could only access the scene using 4x4 bakkies.
Kwazulu Private Ambulances' Craig Botha says the woman and the child were found buried under rubble alive.
"When paramedics arrived on scene they found two patients had sustained serious injuries - a grandmother and granddaughter of about 10 years of age", he said.
"Damage to their home was caused by heavy rains and flooding in the area. They were stabilized on scene and taken to hospital", Botha said.
