Is Grace Mugabe eligible for diplomatic immunity?
Updated | By Shaun Ryan
Police are waiting on the outcome of an application for diplomatic immunity for Zimbabwe's First Lady, Grace Mugabe.

National police spokesperson, Vishnu Naidoo says their investigation into the alleged assault of Gabriela Engels was finalised on Wednesday.
"Investigations are being held in abeyance, pending the outcome of the application of the suspect that's invoked diplomatic immunity in this case," he said.
Engels claims Mugabe assaulted her with an extension cord at a Sandton hotel.
Naidoo says they were about to take the docket to a senior prosecutor for a decision when the SAPS was informed the suspect had made an application for diplomatic immunity.

He says they're now waiting on the Department of International Relations and Co-operation.
"When we were informed, we were told through a note verbale that was issued by the Department of International Relations and Co-operation. So we expect that decision, that is due to be made on that application for diplomatic immunity to also come from the department," he said.
Police Minister, Fikile Mbalula says measures have been put in place to prevent Mugabe from leaving the country.
