Govt's plan to tackle racism, xenophobia

Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa says government has put together a draft action plan to fight racism and xenophobia.

Addressing the National Council of Provinces, he said citizens have until the end of June to comment on the document.
"The National Summit on social cohesion that is being planned for 2018 will consider the progress that we will have made in promoting social cohesion including ridding our country of racism, sexism, xenophobia and intolerance.
"If we are to address the divisions of our society and build a united nation, what we will have to do is work together," he said.
Racism has been put in the spotlight this year following several racist comments particularly on social media by some individuals.
This has given momentum to a national debate on the issue.
Human Rights Day later this month will also be dedicated to fighting racial discrimination.
