'Govt yet to outline concrete plan on land expropriation'
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
Land expropriation without compensation is still on the lips of South Africans with the debate also raging internationally.
The land issue took centre stage last week as an historic motion was passed by Parliament - and has been the hot topic on various platforms for days.
The EFF's motion, to begin the process of possibly amending the Constitution to allow for expropriation without compensation, was backed by the ANC and other political parties.
While the outcome has been welcomed by some - others fear a Zimbabwe-like situation.
Last week, President Cyril Ramaphosa moved to allay fears - saying government won't adopt a smash-and-grab approach to expropriation.
Constitutional law expert, Pierre de Vos says we'll only know how this will play out once government communicates a clear plan on expropriation.
"It's impossible to know what in the Constitution will have to change because we don't know the requirements. The kind of arguments that have been made were open-ended and vague. For that reason - it's not known what parties are saying must change in the Constitution," de Vos said.
