Govt urged to be transparent in allocation of KZN flood relief funds

The Ahmed Kathrada Foundation has pleaded with government to put measures in place to ensure the flood relief funds allocated to KZN do not end up in the wrong hands.
The foundation says lessons must be learnt from the Covid-19 pandemic, which saw corrupt officials getting their hands on money meant for personal protective equipment (PPEs).

It says we cannot have a repeat situation with the disaster relief funds.
It's advised government to use the KZN disaster to rebuild trust with the public.
The foundation's Delani Majola says transparency will go a long way to rebuilding trust.

"As government has come through and made the reassurance that there will be some sort of intervention in terms of relief measures for the victims, we would like to call on transparency certainly around the procurement of some of these interventions because our earlier concerns are that we saw what happened with the Covid-19 corruption."
