Govt squandered R14 billion: AG

Auditor-General Tsakani Maluleke has revealed that government departments squandered R14 billion through material irregularities.

Between the 2018/19 and 2022/23 financial years, 266 irregularities led to the loss.
1.2-billion-rand has been recovered with R700-million currently in the process of being recovered.

Maluleke emphasised the need for ethical culture and accountability.
She also cited improvements in internal controls and disciplinary actions.
