Govt to roll out second booster shots for J&J vaccine
The Department of Health has made further amendments to the country’s Covid-19 vaccination schedule.
The latest changes allow for a second booster shot for those who received the J&J vaccine as their primary dose, together with the booster dose of their choice.
Individuals are now eligible to receive an additional or second booster dose of either J&J or Pfizer, at least 3 months after the first booster shot.
Health spokesperson Foster Mohale says the decision forms part of ongoing efforts to boost the country’s vaccination drive, which has slowed since the first jab was administered over a year ago.
The changes took effect on Monday.
“Although, some challenges with recording of the doses on the Electronic Vaccine Data System have been experienced, and are anticipated to be resolved during the course of the week,” said Mohale.
“Individuals can receive the second booster dose at least 90 days or 3 three months after their first booster dose,” he added.
