Govt rebuilding NPA, but I don't prosecute - Ramaphosa
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
President Cyril Ramaphosa says government has strengthened
the NPA's ability to pursue those responsible for state capture and corruption.
The president told MPs at Cape Town City Hall on Wednesday that government has been rebuilding the NPA's capacity and established a dedicated unit.
"We are already seeing the results of a strong independent prosecuting authority in several cases. Let me be clear, yet again, on the matter of prosecution because somehow this notion is embedded in the minds of the members here.
"They look at me and they often say when are you prosecuting all these people, I do not prosecute."

Ramaphosa has been responding to the State of the Nation Address debate.
"Some even suggest that the president may be using the prosecutorial agents against those who they perceive as opponents or enemies.
"I have said that this repeatedly that I'm not the one who initiates criminal proceedings. That is the sole responsibility of the relevant sector of public prosecutions."
