Minister of Cooperative Governance Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma has laid out the details of the measures they've adopted to support Eskom and soften the blow of load shedding.

President Cyril Ramaphosa declared a state of disaster in response to the crisis during his State of the Nation Address earlier this month.

The department says these disaster management regulations will assist Eskom in restoring capacity in order generate power.

The aim is to also protect and provide relief to the public.

The department's released a statement to say that the measures will minimise the impact of load shedding on livelihoods, the economy, national security, education and health services.

The impact of load shedding on service delivery - where lifesaving and critical infrastructure is concern - will be managed.

New generation supply connections are encouraged, and will be supported.

Eskom's plant performance is also included in the plan.

Cooperative Governance says it will work closely with its social partners and other departments to co-ordinate the measures.
