Govt cost-cutting will affect artists: ANCYL
Updated | By Khatija Nxedlana
The ANC Youth League in KwaZulu-Natal says government must not risk the livelihoods of artists while implementing cost cutting measures.
The league says it recently met with young creatives, claiming one of the main challenges some performers face stems from the provincial government's decision to reduce the use of artists at their events.
The league's provincial secretary, Thanduxolo Sabelo feels government must not work against the creation of employment.
"We are against the position of government to say they're no longer going to use artists because these are young people who work very hard, making a decent and honest living.
"If they want to cut anything, they must cut these blue light vehicles that are following them around. They must cut these bodygusds that are following the around. They must do away with credit cards. That must do away with lunch. They must buy their own lunch at Nandos like everybody else," he said.
