Govt confirms alcohol, tobacco ban to stay throughout lockdown

The ban on liquor and tobacco sales is here to stay - at least until the lockdown period is over, according to government.

Government tweeted the announcement a short while ago - that this is being done to save lives and protect the health and well-being of South Africans.

It's provided some data that shows that two percent of patients with alcohol-related stabbing injuries need to be placed in ICU for an average of five days.

It says the alcohol ban will also reduce the burden on primary health care and private facilities.
